failure of Makita BDF451RFEBy:

I have had this drill, rrp over $800, for approx. 15 months, used entirely for home/private use and in that time have had to seek remedial work on the chuck mechanism twice(fortunately under warranty). However, the drill has again failed in the chuck mechanism, in that it can not be tightened due to continuous slippage as it locks up on drill shank. The unit is now out of warranty and, of course, the manufacturer and supplier do not want to know, even though the problem initially arose during warranty period. Throughout this entire period I have been using a similar specification Metabo with no ill effects evident! p.s. I gave the drill a 1 star rating as when it is working it does everything I want - it's just disappointing I can't now use it for it's intended purpose without spending big dollars on repairs! Tread warily if in the market for this make/model of drill.
