Makita Table Saw 2704 - A good buy!By:TelephoneJoe 13-Oct-2010
"Hi, I have a Complete Cabinetry Shop, and do Finish Woodwork for a living since 2000 when I left the Phone Biz. In my shop I use a Power-Matic 66 in the Filed/Job Site I use The Makita 2704X-1 and a DeWalt-DW744... The Makita WINS hands down! Why? Cause it has a Longer "Infeed" (all most 2 plus inches) then the DeWalt. It has the Electric Break and the SoftStart motor that keeps from Blowing Out the Breakers. Doing Stair Case work the Miter Gage is More Accurate! The Dewalt has the Better Fence (the rack &pinion) but the Makita keeps up just as well. The Rear Out Feed and Left Side Extender wings work better then DeWalt's pair. The DeWalt is Lighter, then Makita but only by 4.8 pounds (no Big Deal) The DeWalt I'm using is a Dw744 "Type-2" the way I understand They're Now Making a Type-4 wich has the DW718 miter saw Soft Start Motor with I think has the Electro Brake features Personally I think They're Both Great Table Saws (Dw-744 & 2704) I just Like the Makita Way More Finish Woodwork Requires Accuracy the kind that You get on a Cabinet Saw,,, Both these saws are Close but Don't go out and Buy a "Job Site" saw and try to use as a Cabinetry Shop saw... Come One,,, You're compairing a saw that costs in the hundered dollar area to a saw that costs in the Thousands of dollars kinda saw. For what these saws are made for They Really are GREAT! Thanks for reading this, Good Luck in all your woodworking endevours Buzzillions 1-10-08
